Assou Ekotto: Read player’s epic response to a French journalist on the Paris Attack!

ekottoKnown for his temperament that made him say one day that he was a footballer “to make money”, the Cameroonian player of AS Saint-Etienne, Benoît Assou-Ekotto, proved true to his reputation during an explosive interview with L’Equipe.
During that interview, he answered a series of questions. But what drew our attention is the answer he gave for his refusal to wear the black armband to mourn for the victims of the Paris attack. This is what the former indomitable Lion had to say about it.
Shortly before, there was an attack in northern Cameroon and I was refused to wear it for a Europa League match I know the principle of the ‘mort au kilomètre’. A murderer who kills two people XVIth district of Paris will make more noise than if he kills a hundred at the other side of the world. But I am a very straight, I do not see why I should wear an armband for the dead in Paris and not in Cameroon. I am neither white nor black, apart from my skin color. To me, there are no VIP deads. “

As a reminder, in November 13th 2015, a terrorist attack occured in Paris that left so many people dead. Despite the fact that some days earlier there were attacks in Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad, just to name a few, the later were completely shaded and all eyes were on Paris, Facebook even had to create a flag feature to support Paris. Shortly after the incident, St. Etienne, Ekotto’s club was playing a match and every player had to wear an armband to mourn for the Paris deads. But the Cameroonian refused to do so.
